Kenya

My people, my people!
For we are one, I weep with you as injustice steals your peace.
As you rebel, my heart barrels across the Atlantic to your defence.

Alight my brother; he splattered with the blood of a struggling nation.
Fighting for integrity.
Fighting to vote in a fair election.

Alight my sister; she maimed with wounds bound to signify this revolution.
Protect your abundance.
Pray democracy hatches amidst hands more accustomed to hatchets.

Predators of yore preluded today’s Anansi politicians, but something sprightly with greed spawned them all.

In woe, Great mother of Africa, my tears are crystalizing.
May you shelter them safely beneath your sheath.
Let them recover.
Let love spark through darkness the brightest light.

My people, my people!
For my tears have crystalized, let love illuminate the path to peace.
