A calendar designation
An unrealized emancipation
Perhaps leaders ought to help
Or does it suit them
we sink hope in lamenting prophets
who promise hand over heart to protect the flock
from foreseeable, fiery, and full-on destruction?
Wriggle free, and throw off the doctrine,
the guarantees you are an object observed.
Then observed or not,
Step out on the narrow strait
into in the soul’s Mediterranean
step into powerful waves at depths
between ridges we must echo to describe,
step into existence we cannot hear, or see everyday,
not just because the speed of life blocks the way,
but because our minds are are easily struck
with terror, and long remain low once downed.
Step out because only fear prevents you
Not your soft curves or lack thereof; not
your long hair or lack thereof; not
your warm heart or lack thereof; not
your menses or lack thereof.
Tied up in fear, personal power is easily slain,
like the young goat on the plain; but nets not
purity as it is hoped because fear stills,
it petrifies not unlike wood
or rock, it petrifies our will and concepts of self,
petrifies in these places we inhabit all that would live,
petrifies hundreds of thousands, town by town,
village by village, nest by nest,
petrifies those who suck in the same gas,
swallow the same drops, and are immunized against her —
her right to decide what is pure in life, and what that’s worth,
if it’s worth her mental and physical bondage,
her sweat and her salty tears, or if
woman for woman, the most praiseworthy
is free agency.
