We don’t need to know it firsthand;
Often enough we face death and its
devastating and permanent separation.
Wailing or summoning equanimity we
give up those we care for; and sometimes
those we know only by name or location.
And for me,
be it in Baltimore or Brighton,
It shakes me inside to think
the heart expands and contracts,
but for one moment
one vertebrae snapped
one short gasp
one narrowed mind
one irreversible act.
Subsequent to these thoughts, no news is good;
so forgive me:-
Tesla’s battery may soon power the home, but
what about the humans who ought to be charged
and never to run out of humanity?
