Those slicing and buttering bagels; squirting ketchup on sandwiches; piling cold scoops onto sugar cones;
And those releasing the tap on an ice cold brewski — Thanks a lot!
Those running our public transit —
We appreciate you safely motoring on.
While many before you are on a day of rest,
You toil like the maker, who knows no holiday;
For you are the grit of industry, and by every measure,
Its doughy heart and soul.
So for all you bring, my sister and my brother,
May you also reap delight with this thank you,
As with each interaction in this diverse world.
Then, at day’s end, when it’s time for fireworks,
May your inner light sparkle against the darkness,
Whizzing like crackers & bursting with happiness —
The kind of happiness that’s kept you smiling all day.
Happy Canada day, all!
