Soon cookies will be baking and turkeys will be roasting
And I’ll start the long drive home, Listening alone
To Nat King Cole’s bluesy baritone.
Then, in the cove of a dozen loving arms,
I will forget all the loneliness I’ve known,
In a year pierced with fears of scarcity, And
Unsteady walks on the road to sobriety.
But, furled in the voices of the family choir,
I will step into the warmth I’ve longed for.
I will share with all
The hope for a new season
And the joy of coming this far, To
Increase the store of my heart.
Merry Sunrise everyone!
