Your imagery is inspirational. I love the way you paint with words. I am transfixed by the "eternal Spring and thrills of the trills on your bamboo flute." I am looking forward to much more. My thanks for sharing it.

Nice article but the article did not address the root cause of off-shoring component of outsourcing. I see the hardship of many friends and families in Detroit who lost jobs and it is extremely traumatic. Detroit is a good example of how protectionism fails. GM and UAW did not address the real competitive issues on time. Those of us in Detroit continued to buy locally made cars, but that did not help the Auto companies, who sell more cars outside of US. Not only did the leadership at GM and UAW failed, they failed many of their employees, and brought them down with them. Patriotism and protectionism can only go so far and they are not enough to sustain market leadership.

We, the consumers, always want things better and cheaper. Corporations are challenged by each other to produce more, better and cheaper. Outsourcing has always been there since early civilization. Would any New York resident be paying 200% more for locally grown tomato's over tomato's sourced from South? Can we stop off-shoring with protectionist measures? Yes. Can we sustain that in the long run? The answer is a clear No!. The reason is simple, exports constitute a significant portion of any developed country's GDP. Trade is more global now than ever. GM sells more cars outside of US and that trend may not reverse.

Nations can not compete by forcing companies to be uncompetetive but by building an echo system that fosters competitive skills to compete in a connected World. It's very easy for the government to resort to protectionism. By not addressing the needs of the country to sustain its competitive advantage, politicians are causing a permanent damage to the current and future generations of their citizens. Corporations are as greedy as ever, the Government has the responsibility to not only make the trade fair but to take long-term measures to build a sustainable echo system for its citizens to compete globally.

Greyhoundtia51,
It might be a "true life happening" for someone, but is loosely based on a story I read in the paper yesterday. I was inspired to try to capture the emotions of someone in such a position. I hope you enjoy it regardless.

Clap, clap, clap. This is fantastic and amazingly well written, too. Thank you for posting such a detailed article regarding the current economic crisis vs. offshoring. I've linked to your post on my site as a comprehensive reference for others.
