Questioning Soul Water

2008 February 14

Where are you soul water?

Here I am,
parched and decaying,
like so many carcasses in the desert sun
after evil mirages have their fun.

Why did you not appear to lead me to the river Nile,
where we could drink
as if water were going out of style?

Where are you soul water?
You promised to be my guide,
and I immediately imagined you glued to my side.
We would galavant in the sun
and succumb beneath the shade,
with you, my earthly compass,
navigating my every need.

Where are you soul water?
Why now have you deserted me:
A lioness,
once strong; now sickly?
Soul water, answer me!
